Q Due: Original Post May 12th at 8am; Your two replies May 14th at 8am Available: May 7th at 8am until May 14th at 8am Points: 20 points; 10 for your original post, 5 each for two well thought out replies, extra points not awarded for extra posts Time Limit Once Launched: None Allowed Attempts: Unlimited This semester we have dealt with some pretty heavy topics. I'll bet that you thought that this class was going to be all about trees and flowers and bunnies :) Sorry. I feel that it is important for all of us to understand that we do not all experience the environment equally. So, now that we are at the semester and you have learned a great deal about the environments of California and ecology I want you to reflect upon what you have learned. Select a topic from the ones listed below: 1. Do you think of/view the environment and ecology of California differently or the same as you did when you started this class? In what ways? What will you take away from this experience? 2. What is your responsibility, if any, for the protection of the environments of California? What steps will you take? Will those steps be local, regional or statewide? 3. Will you chose to take on the responsibility of advocating for greater equity regarding access to environmental resources? Will you chose to take on the responsibility of working for environmental justice? What steps will you take? Will those be local, regional or statewide? For your original post, select one of the topics above. Do some research on that topic. Post what you learned. Please include the links to any of the sites that you used. Your post should be written in a way as to educate the other people in this class about your selected topic. For your reply, select a post by another student who selected a topic different than your own. Review their post and any associated links. Construct a reply based upon what you learned from that post. Your reply should add substance to the conversation or your reply can be a question based upon what you learned but if you post a question, you will need to spend a little bit of time researching the answer. Please provide the answer in your post. Either way, your post should work to move the conversation forward. To post to this topic, you will need to click reply to THIS post. Please do not create a new discussion topic!

1. My views on the ecology and environment have changed significantly since taking this class. Before taking this class I had very little consideration for the environment. Not that I would litter or do anything destructive intentionally but I had little thought about my actions and the effect they had on the environment. Learning about the effects of dams like Hetch Hetchy was eye-opening. Then learning about why California needs dams because our water needs are so high. I didn't realize the north had to send water to the south and that so much of our water is used on agriculture.
